More reef – More fish

Welcome to the Chincoteague Wachapreague reef project. We are here to promote reef building on the Eastern Shore. Reef, whether natural or artificial creates marine habitat. The sandy barren ocean bottom off the Eastern Shore is a perfect area to build reef. Once there was an abundance of natural reef off the coast, however many years of destructive bottom trawling have destroyed some of these areas. Fish are attracted to reef, tog, seabass, flounder and many other species could care less if they live on natural bottom or a man-made structure. Each block of reef we send over increases the carrying capacity of fish populations. More reef – More fish.
